Signed: Signed by Frank C. Bosler and John C. Coble Issued / Uncancelled, dated 1900. Properties were located near Cheyenne, Wyoming.
The Iron Mountain Ranch was located near Chugwater and owned by Frank Bosler. Bosler was a well known cattle rancher, member of the Wyoming Stock Growers' Association and the Cheyenne Club. He hired John Coble as the Operations Manager for the ranch. During the Range Wars of the late 1890's and early 1900's homesteaders had been encroaching on prime range land and rustling cattle. To protect his range land and keep rustling of his cattle under control, Bosler hired notorious gunman Tom Horn. In 1901 Horn was accused of the murder of a boy on neighboring homestead. Coble had become good friends with Horn during their employ at Iron Mountain Ranch and Coble believed Horn was innocent and had been framed for the murder. Coble skimmed operating funds from the ranch to hire attorneys in Horn's defense. When Bosler found out about his ranch funds being used to defend Horn, he fired Coble in order to distance himself from the controversy. Coble's efforts and Bosler's money were in vein as Tom Horn was hung in 1903. Coble's was not able to sustain employment and was broke. He finally committed suicide in December, 1914. Certificate is in VF condition. Please contact us with any questions you may have about this piece.
