Henry Moore Teller moved to Colorado Territory in 1861 where he took up residence in Central City to begin practicing law in the new mining frontier.  He quickly gained prominence in the community and the young Territory, being appointed Major General of the Territorial Militia in 1863 by Governor Evans.  In 1865, Teller founded and promoted the Colorado Central Railroad where he remained President until 1870.  Henry M. Teller, along with Jerome B. Chaffee, was elected to the U.S. Senate for the new State of Colorado in 1876 where he served in that capacity until 1882 when he was appointed Secretary of the Interior, serving until 1885.   Teller was again elected into the U.S. Senate in 1885 where he remained until 1909.   Teller was a staunch supporter of the mining and silver interests of Colorado and became a Silver Republican, supporting William Jennings Bryan in 1896.  A fine piece of Colorado mining and political history!
