The Official Manual of the Cripple Creek District

Fred Hills; Colorado Springs,  Colorado - 1900

This publication is by far the most well-known and highly sought-after resource manual for the mining companies of the Cripple Creek Gold Mining District.  This book contains 495 pages of valuable information about the Cripple Creek District including 15 pages describing the history and geology of the District written by Colorado State Geologist T.A. Rickard.    All companies covered in the book are indexed and each entry includes a detailed description of the company including its Directors, Capitalization, Property, Development, and Production as well as a small plat map of its properties.  This particular book is a rare find as it includes the color plat map of the District!

The color claim map is a very rare find and is scarcely included with the manual.  The map measures approximately 28"w x 31" h detailing the Cripple Creek District towns, hills as well as the various claims which are color-coded by company.

Condition:

Manual is in overall near fine condition - cover has bumped corners, minor tear to red cover cloth at bottom-center edge (see scan), and some minor stains, cover is cracked at inside hinges.  Interior is in fine condition; All pages are present with no major tears (first 2 pages have a very minor tear, about 15mm, at bottom edge, no paper missing).

Map is in very good condition with some damage to folds, primarily at the center-line, which has been repaired to prevent further damage and preserve the data on the map.  All details are present and clear.  Top and bottom folds have minor tears that have been repaired to prevent further damage.  All repairs have been performed with archival materials.
