Creek history from the biggest and most productive mining company in the

Letterhead dated 1913 at Colorado
Springs, Colo. from the Stratton Cripple Creek Mining and Development
Company. Signed by long-time Secretary, William Lloyd.
The SCCM&D Co. was created by Stratton near the end of his life and career
in Cripple Creek. Its primary purpose was to purchase and
consolidate properties on Gold, Globe, Ironclad and Bull hills and for
Stratton to carry out his quest for the "Bowl of Gold". Letterhead
is in near fine condition.

1900 for the Chat, Hulbert E. Chat, Etta Chat and Mamie Chat Lodes.
Title Grantee's include: Chat Mining and Milling Company, W.S.

hand-written Cripple Creek mining document involving the well-known
Cripple Creek attorney, W.S. Montgomery.

Mining Deed
Cripple Creek
Mining Deed, dated 1892.
A very early Mining Deed, dated 1892,
from the Cripple Creek District and signed by F. W. Howbert, County
Clerk of El Paso County. This is one of the earliest deeds you
will see from Cripple Creek. In fact, it refers to the claim as
being located in the "Womack Mining District", for the founder of
the Cripple Creek District "Crazy" Bob Womack. The deed states:
"... assigns All of the Surprise Placer mining claim, situated in Cripple
Creek, or Womack Mining District, in El Paso County and State of
Colorado..." The deed assigns property from 5 miners to the Requa
Gold and Silver Mining and Milling Company. It is also unique
in that this deed is on a placer claim, which were worked in the
Cripple Creek District for only a brief period of time. Fine
condition.

A very nice Cripple Creek mining deed
from the District's glory-days! This deed transfers properties to
the Battle Mountain Consolidated Gold Mining Company.
The deed reads: "...A certain fractional claim called the "Potlatch" being
east of the City of Victor and west of the Tecumseh Lode mining claim on
the south slope of Battle Mountain in the Cripple Creek Mining
District..."

Colorado Trading and Transfer Company

Billhead
dated 1900 at Cripple Creek, Colo. Billed against the
Burke & Fry Lease. The Colorado Trading & Transfer
Company had a virtual monopoly on transfer of goods in the Cripple Creek
District. They eventually owned the means by which nearly all ore
was shipped from the mine to the mill.

Ore settlement receipt, dated at
Cripple Creek, Colo., 1898.
Settlement is for ore bought from the
Mary McKinney Mining Company. The Cripple Creek Sampling and
Ore Co. was one of the many mining and milling companies owned and
operated by Charles Tutt (president) and Spencer Penrose (Sec. &
Treasurer). Tutt & Penrose eventually had a virtual monopoly on
the milling of Cripple Creek ores and were key Cripple Creek personalities
throughout the history of the Cripple Creek District. Receipt is in
Fine condition. Scan does not show entire sheet...it is too large
for the scanner bed. Measures approx. 12.5" x 7.5".

Dorcas Reduction Works

Ore settlement receipt, dated at
Florence, Colo., 1903.
Reduction works were operated by the
Dorcas Mining, Milling and Development Co. Settlement is for ore from
the War Eagle Mine of the Stratton Cripple Creek Mining &
Development Co. The Dorcas Reduction works would have
utilized the Florence & Cripple Creek Railway to transport ore from
Cripple Creek mines for processing.

Railway Express Co. in Pueblo, Colorado. dated Jan. 1, 1919. A
great document from the American Railway Express Co. for a gentleman
applying for a position in Colorado which includes interesting work
history of applicant: employed as a farmer with father; Post office clerk
for the Government, which he left" to come to Colorado on account of wifes
health"; Agent for Adams Express Co., which he left "to enlist in U.S.
Navy".
A wonderful piece of Express Company
history! Tri-folded, four-page (two-pages front & back) document in
fair to good condition with chips at folds (see scan at right above). A
bit fragile, but still in tact.
