Whether it be on Wall Street, Broad Street, or Main Street the business of trading stock has been transacted in many places over the last 200-plus years in the United States.
These stock certificates are sometimes historically significant and in many cases are works of art. Scripophily (the collecting of stock and bond certificates) has become one of the fastest growing and most interestingly diverse forms of collecting....and its popularity is felt worldwide!
What many collectors do not realize is that the paper stock certificate is quickly becoming a thing of the past. In its place stock ownership will be strictly "book entry" . In other words, ownership in a company will be recorded in electronic form rather than the creation of a physical, paper stock certificate. Therefore, even the more modern certificates that may seem senseless to collect from a historical standpoint, will become more valuable and historical in the very near future as corporations wean themselves away from issuing paper certificates. Several companies (AT&T, for example) have already stopped issuing physical certificates. Moreover, the artistry and color of some modern certificates is truly magnificent and should not be overlooked.
A "collectable" stock certificate can have many definitions. It is based primarily on the imagination of you, the collector. If you can think of a theme, you can collect it in stock certificates. The collectable certificates presented below are generally of the "modern" era (1930's - present) and are collectable for the artwork on the certificate (the vignette) or the company they represent.

All shares will now be held electronically, so no additional paper certificates will be created. This is the first of many announcements of this kind that will come in the near future.
