Excelsior Mining, Milling & Electric Co

Cripple Creek / Denver

Letterhead dated 1918 at Denver, Colorado. 

The Excelsior Mining company had several mines leased across the state of Colorado, with their original properties being located at Frisco, Summit County.  This letter pertains to properties leased from the Stratton Cripple Creek Mining & Development Company.  Leases were on the Longfellow Mine, adjoining the Golden Cycle and Vindicator Mines at Victor.

Letterhead dated 1907 at Colorado Springs, Colo. from the Portland Gold Mining Co., Stock Transfer Office written to the Portland G M Co. office in Victor, Colo.   States on letterhead: "Mines at Victor, Colo."  Signed by Frank G. Peck.

Stratton Cripple Creek Mining & Development Co.

Colorado Springs / Cripple Creek

Letterhead dated 1904 at Colorado Springs, Colo. from the Stratton Cripple Creek Mining and Development Company.  Signed by long-time Secretary, William Lloyd.  The SCCM&D Co. was created by Stratton near the end of his life and career in Cripple Creek.  Its primary purpose was to purchase and consolidate properties on Gold, Globe, Ironclad and Bull hills and for Stratton to carry out his quest for the "Bowl of Gold".  Letterhead is in near fine condition.

Ore settlement receipt, dated at Victor, Colorado, 1916.

Settlement is for ore bought from the Isabella Mining Company.  Ore settlement sheets are one of the few documents that exist from the many sampling companies in the Cripple Creek District and are highly collectable.

Receipt is in Fine condition.   Receipt measures approx. 9" x 7 1/4"

Cripple Creek Sampling and Ore Co.

Cripple Creek

Ore settlement receipt, dated at Cripple Creek, Colo., 1898.

Settlement is for ore bought from the Mary McKinney Mining Company.  The Cripple Creek Sampling and Ore Co. was one of the many mining and milling companies owned and operated by Charles Tutt (president) and Spencer Penrose (Sec. & Treasurer).  Tutt & Penrose eventually had a virtual monopoly on the milling of Cripple Creek ores and were key Cripple Creek personalities throughout the history of the Cripple Creek District. 

Receipt is in Fine condition.  Scan does not show entire sheet...it is too large for the scanner bed.  Measures approx. 12.5" x 7.5".

Ore settlement receipt, dated at Florence, Colo.,  1903.

Reduction works were operated by the Dorcas Mining, Milling and Development Co.   Settlement is for ore from the War Eagles Mine of the Stratton Cripple Creek Mining & Development Co.

Eagle Ore Company

Ore settlement receipt, dated at Victor, Colorado,  1919.

Settlement is for ore bought from the Mine Owners Association.  1 sack of ore weighing 31.5 pounds was purchased and netted $98.95.  Not bad for a few shovels full of ore!!  Gross ore value per ton was note as $11,980, which was incredibly rich ore!

Ore settlement sheets are one of the few documents that exist from the many sampling companies in the Cripple Creek District and are highly collectable.

United States Reduction and Refining Company

Ore settlement receipt, dated at Colorado Springs, Colorado,  1903.  Standard Plant

Settlement is for ore bought from the Stratton Cripple Creek Mining and Development Co. ,  Abe Lincoln Mine.  The United States Reduction & Refining Company was owned by the most powerful men in Cripple Creek; Spencer Penrose and Charles Tutt.  They eventually developed a virtual monopoly on the milling of Cripple Creek ores.
