Railroad Stock and Bond Catalogue
A listing
of American Railroad stock and bond certificates
When one thinks of the Great American West
and American Industrialization, one thing comes to mind: The Greatest of
American Industries; The Railroad.
Railroads did more to build and shape this country
than any other single entity and their legacy is indelibly etched on the face
of our nation through thousands of miles of track, tunnels and bridges that were
built by the hundreds of railroads that crisscrossed the U.S.
They also left behind a legacy of financial documents used to finance the
grandiose construction dreams of those that owned them. When it
comes to stock certificates, there is nothing quite like the railroads to bring
the collector an amazing array of fine material from which to choose! The
Denver Stock Exchange is proud to present the
following collectable and historical railroad stocks and bonds for your collection.

Creek District Railway Company

1902
$1000, 5% First
Consolidated Forty-Year Gold Bond
Signed by Irving
Howbert
Wonderful vignettes of locomotives as
well as a mountain cabin and water fall on
coupons.
The Colorado Springs and Cripple District Central Railway was organized in 1899
and ground was broken by Irving Howbert, the companies first President, in
January, 1900. The Standard Gauge main line was built between Colorado
Springs and Cripple Creek, but was born out of the Cripple Creek District
Railway, which ran an electric interurban line between Cripple Creek and
Victor. This company's articles were amended and the name changed to
The Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek District Railway Company.
This new line between Cripple Creek and Colorado Springs would become
known as The Short Line to Cripple Creek. The scenery was
dramatic along the route which Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed so beautiful it
"...Bankrupt the English language."
Also included,
the following
ephemera from the Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek Dist. Railway;
Voucher (1908) signed by J.H. Waters, Freight Bill from
the United Gold Mines Co. (1910), and United Gold Mines check

Dubuque
Electric Railway, Light & Power Co.
Iowa
Issued / Cancelled, 1891. Issued
at Davenport, Iowa.
Certificate displays a wonderful
vignette of an electric power house and rail line. The company
wanted to publicize the use of electricity as a means of transportation
through the use of trolleys. They purchased 40 acres of land to
build a park, known as Stewart Park, to become the terminus of the
electric rail line. The park struggled, as did the electric
trolley system, and the company became unable to operate the trolley
line. The company was sold to Old Colony Trust in 1893 and
eventually ownership passed to the General Electric Company, who
reorganized the local business into the Home Electric Company, which
later sold out to Union Electric Company.
Certificate is in
F condition.
Offered at: $175
