  • This is a unique and seldom seen bank deposit certificate from the Bank of Cripple Creek, one of the earliest banks in the Cripple Creek District. The document displays a fantastic photo of miners and their horses outside the “Jim Blaine” Mine.
  • The Jim Blaine Mine was located in Poverty Gulch and owned by the Gold King Mining Company, along with the El Paso claim, which was Bobby Womack’s famed original claim in the Cripple Creek Mining District.

  • Check is drawn on the account of the C.O.D. Gold Mining Company, which was discovered early in the Districts history by Charles Tutt and Spencer Penrose. They later sold the mine to a French syndicate, which was the first significant foreign investment in the District.
