Gold Mining Stock Exchange Association

of Cripple Creek, Colorado

This Gold Mining Stock Exchange Association of Cripple Creek, Colorado certificate is a newly discovered piece of Cripple Creek history.   The first "local" stock exchange created to facilitate trading in Cripple Creek shares was the Colorado Springs Mining Stock Brokers Association, established in 1892.   This began the prominence of Colorado Springs as the financial center for trading Cripple Creek mining securities.   Also forming in 1892 was the Cripple Creek Mining Stock Exchange.   This exchange was only mildly successful and four more exchanges were created in Cripple Creek between 1895 and 1899, including the Gold Mining Stock Exchange Association.    These exchanges in Cripple Creek did not last long as trading continued to gravitate to Colorado Springs exchanges.

Discovery of this piece is significant in that very few certificates have survived from any of the local exchanges in Cripple Creek or Colorado Springs.
